The Brief

Create and deliver a nationwide charity swimming campaign which engages all facets of the UK swimming industry and attracts a mass participation audience.

The Solution

Limelight Sports has continued to develop the annual Swimathon event since starting work on the campaign in 1986, and the longstanding program sees year on year involvement from over 600 pools across the UK.  Participants take on Individual or Team challenges of their choice and can support the campaign’s charity partner along the way. Our team have been responsible for the campaign’s major rebrand in 2017 as well as the continual evolution of the campaign including sister programs such as School Swimathon and Open Water Swimathon introduced in 2017.

The Results

  • Over 700,000 swimmers have taken part in the campaign since 1986. The campaign has firmly established itself as a flagship program in the UK swimming industry and in 2017 will celebrate its 30th year.
  • £46million raised for charity partners, such as Marie Curie and Sport Relief, since inception.
  • Over 600 facilities host Swimathon events each year.
  • Continual evolution with sister programs, School Swimathon and Open Water Swimathon, introduced in 2016 and the introduction of bespoke timing and lap counting technology.
