Etape Caledonia gets the go ahead for 2019Limelight Sports announced it had acquired the event management rights to Scotland’s original closed road sportive, Etape Caledonia, from global sports management giant IMG last month. They have since been in active consultation with local community members and councillors about putting the necessary operational requirements in place to run the event successfully and sustainably.
The 85-mile sportive was the UK’s first and original closed road event when it was launched in 2007. Over the last ten years it has attracted over 40,000 cyclists to the Highland Perthshire area and raised over £2.5 million for charity. The event is also estimated to drive well over £1 million in tourism revenues annually to the Highland Perthshire region and the event’s charity partner, Marie Curie Cancer Care, is back on board for its 8th consecutive year of fundraising. Limelight Sports has exciting plans to build on and enhance the event’s heritage as Scotland’s premier cycling event.
Craig Dews, CEO at Limelight, said:
“We’re extremely pleased with the decision made by Perth & Kinross Council today. We have an enthusiastic and very experienced team who are looking forward to taking Etape Caledonia forward into its second successful decade as the original closed road cycling sportive. We’ll be sharing the details of our plans over the coming weeks, as well as continuing to work with members of the local business community to ensure that participants are given the warmest welcome to Highland Perthshire.”
“I’d personally like to extend my thanks to everyone that we have been in contact with over the last few weeks. Their advice, guidance and input to this process has been greatly appreciated by our whole team and I’m confident that, together, we will deliver a very successful Etape Caledonia next May.”
