UK's Most Beautiful City Run Sells Out Again

On Sunday 9 October 2016, a sold-out field of 16,000 runners took on the stunning Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon. Nine years since the inaugural race, the RPFHM is an annual sell out event with a ballot for public registration due to the over demand for places, has won multiple awards and raised in excess of £30million for over 650 UK charities.

In 2008 the Royal Parks Foundation, in partnership with Limelight Sports, created the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon as an annual fundraising initiative, raising sustainable funds for the Royal Parks Foundation to support London's eight Royal Parks, and enabling charities of all sizes to be involved in a major challenge event.

The 13.1 mile route devised by Limelight Sports which takes in the capital's world-famous landmarks on closed roads, including Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, and four of London's eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens. The run finished in Hyde Park where participants were able to enjoy all of the offerings of the Food & Fitness Festival with their friends and family, including a farmer's market, stage entertainment, free goodies and have-a-go fitness activities.

Limelight Sports produced a Food & Fitness Festival and Tracker App to enhance the experience of the participants and their supporters. Friends and family were able to follow runners around the route, providing split times at 5km, 10km, 15km and 20km and an estimated finish time. In 2016 the app was downloaded 18,333 times, with 72% runners being tracked.

A key objective of the RPFHM is to make race day as green and sustainable as possible. All participants received a race shirt made from bamboo and recyclable polyester, and a medal made from FSC accredited Beech wood. In 2016, 40% of waste from the event was recycled.

Race day was deemed a huge success with #RoyalParksHalf trending on Twitter in the UK.

Charity runner, Vin, described the event as "Awesome, Fantastic, Excellent, Great, Super, Enjoyable, Friendly. I'm running out of superlatives. I love this event."

Ballot runner, Jenny, shared her thoughts on the event too: "Great day! Really well organized and lots going on, would highly recommend," she said.
