Open Water Swimathon almost sold out
At the end of June Limelight Sports and The Swimathon Foundation, the charity behind the hugely successful Swimathon campaign, launched Open Water Swimathon. In less than 3 weeks individual entries have sold out in 9 of the 11 venues. Individual places at the remaining venues and team entries are also selling fast.
The popularity of this new Swimathon challenge is testament to the growing appeal of open water swimming and Swimathon’s ability to create accessible challenges for local communities that allow people to get involved with swimming and to raise money for great causes. We are now looking at ways we can increase capacity at existing venues and signing up new ones to enable more people to take part in inaugural Open Water Swimathon.
Open Water Swimathon will take place on the weekend of 9-10th September, at venues across the country. Participants will have the opportunity to take part as individuals (1.5K, 2.5K or 5K) or as part of a team (1.5K or 5K), and provides the perfect challenge for both experienced swimmers, and those looking to try out open water swimming for the first time.
Jonathan Whittall, Project Manager at Limelight Sports responsible for all Swimathon events, said:
"It has been fantastic to see such a positive response to Open Water Swimathon from both a participant and venue perspective. We are proud to work closely with The Swimathon Foundation to bring swimming challenges to people of all ages and abilities in local communities across the the UK. Open Water Swimathon gives people a new and different opportunity to swim and a goal to strive for."
